The Wasatch Two-Step.

The Wasatch Two-Step.

It was supposed to be just another Sunday, but we were fired up – bluebird skies, a fresh coat of overnight snow, and a Gravity QuestTM challenge daring us to choose between two of the best mountains in America, Snowbird and Alta, that practically sit on top of each other. So, we did the only logical thing: we skied both. Snowbird in the morning, then over the top into Alta by afternoon. And when the day started to wind down, none of us had the sense to act like adults and call it quits, we kept going!

Jump off the Tram at Snowbird and it’s game on – straight into the steeps and chutes on The Cirque – legs waking up under protest, responding instinctively out of necessity. From there, you swing over to Mineral Basin, push across the Bookend Traverse to the gates, and drop into the sun-soaked pitches by Sunday Night Fever like you own the place. Then, it’s back to the top, through the electronic gates, and suddenly you’re sliding into Alta like you’ve crossed the border into another country – same snow, totally different soul. Mineral Basin one minute, old-school Alta glades the next. Somewhere in the middle, it stops being a regular ski day and turns into a full-blown alpine adventure. Two mountains, two personalities, one ridiculous day. Sometime around two o’clock, our legs filed a formal complaint, but we denied their request to stop.

What made it all stick? Gravity QuestTM. It made every turn feel good because we weren’t just chasing vertical — we were skiing to help feed kids. Knowing the fun we were having added up to meals for kids turned a great ski day into one we’ll talk about for years. Exploring, laughing, and helping kids, all at once. It turns out, good times and a good cause ride the same chairlift.

If you ever get the chance to lap Snowbird and Alta on a bluebird day, ski it till your legs quit.
